You will be joining a fast-paced development team working with a UK-based startup that is developing state-of-the-art solar thermal technology using heliostats. The company is planning to deploy the technology at the end of this year in a full-scale demonstration plant in Spain. The Software Team is responsible for building, testing and deploying an end-to-end control system to manage and monitor the plant.

Responsibilities:

We are looking for a Python developer with experience in integrating hardware and software. If successful in the role, your responsibilities will grow to include being team Tech Lead, setting system architecture and supporting other engineers on the project. The project will involve the following (prior experience in some of these areas is helpful but not required):

• Building an IoT platform to manage thousands of connected heliostats
• Deploying cloud services and a web-based monitoring solution
• Agreeing on safety protocols with the customer in response to emergencies at the power plant
• Building camera-based computer vision monitoring to estimate heliostat positions
• Radio control of remote devices

Requirements:

• Software development skills in Python
• Experience architecting a solution to an unstructured problem
• Excellent problem-solving, critical thinking, and communication skills
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
• Ability to work with and test real hardware
• English proficiency: Upper Intermediate or Advanced

Preferred Skills:

• Experience building software connected to real hardware (actuators, cameras, sensors)
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, preferably Azure (GCP and AWS also useful)
• Understanding of IoT frameworks and protocols
